I’ve been wanting one of these for a long time, just a kind of tool that tells you if your design might be pleasing to others (and me). Now I have one, awesome quality!

A tool I didn’t need have but that I’m very happy to have now! The Golden Mean isn’t hard to calculate but it sure is nice having calipers that allow you to move over a forms while experimenting with proportions. How’s the base to the largest diameter? Where’s a good place to place an embellishment on the surface? I don’t see the GM ratio as establishing a rule as much as providing a reference to visually pleasing proportions.
It’s also nice that this tool is so well made. The legs are just stiff enough to stay put without being hard to move. The 12″ size is also working out well and I hear that larger sizes will be available at some point.
Another great tool from a great company!

I have been struggling with the 1/3 rule while learning to turn. After watching Trents video on how the tool works it convinced me in making the purchase hopefully correcting the scale of my turnings.
