Description

Our 5/8″ Carbide Hollowing Tools are great for your hollowing needs up to about 8″ deep. Each tool comes ready to go with cup style Hunter #1 cutter and T9 Torx Wrench. When worn out, tips are easy to replace, replacement tips can be found here.

Why choose our Carbide Hollowing Tools?

  • Designed to be used by hand or with the Stabilizer.
  • Cup style Hunter #1 carbide tips are rotatable to get a new fresh edge, and replaceable when worn out.
  • Narrow profile for superior access and control – allows you to hollow longer before needing to clear out the shavings.
  • Not all bent tools are created equally. Our Bent and Extreme Bent tools are designed so that the cutter is located on center with the shaft of the tool. This eliminates the rotary torque often associated with the hollowing process as long as you keep the tool rest behind the bent part of the tool .
  • Designed by a woodturner for woodturners and made in our Fort Collins, Colorado shop.

Why choose Carbide? No need to sharpen, just rotate the tip for a fresh edge. The cutting edge lasts a very long time and creates a nice shaving with a clean cut. This can be both good and bad. A clean cut is easier to sand and clean up, however removing longer shavings through a small opening can be challenging.

Important note about our Carbide Hollowing Tools: Depending on the material that you are cutting, we recommend rotating the tool/cutter towards the wood anywhere between 5-15 degrees. When used straight up the carbide tips can become aggressive (especially in harder woods).

Overall Length of Tool: 15″ / Approximate Hollowing Depth: 8″

Don’t forget a handle. We recommend a 20″ Handle, like our Purple Super Tool Handle  (included in a “Super Set”).

I bought these tool to be used with Trent’s hollowing system in the near future. I turned a couple hollow for and was surprised to how good the carbide cutters are. The cut wood like there is no tomorrow.

I was looking for a good starter set that did not cost an exorbitant amount amount of money. I researched the blog sites and YouTube videos for cost recommendation for a size starting my adventure in hollowing and hit upon Trent Bosch tools and decided to order the 5/8″ set with the rest and later setup also. I ran out of funds I wish I could have ordered the depth finder hopefully some time later this year I will be the proud owner of them.

I purchased the 3 piece carbide hollowing set with handle, straight tool and hook tool. I am happy with the purchase, but I have not had a chance to use the tools yet. I can say they were packaged well, promptly shipped, good value compared to alternatives I looked at, and they appear well made. I like the ability to get spare cutters. Up to now, I’ve only used shop-made high-speed steel tools for hollowing. I am looking forward to my first hollow form with the carbide cutters. Also want to say that Trent does an awesome job in his demos, which prompted to get this set.

So nice to have a tool designed from a gentleman that uses the same for his own pursuit in woodturning. What’s the old Cliché…. Made by a woodturner for a woodturner… In this instance, it is a true statement.

  16. William K. (verified owner)

  23. Anonymous (verified owner)

As a relatively new turner with limited experience, these tools have exceeded my expectations. Tools are extremely high quality and were delivered quickly. For me the learning curve was pretty steep. I had to try a couple of practice pieces before really feeling comfortable with the flow of using these. Well worth the money!
