Description

Our 3/8″ High Speed Steel Hollowing Tools are great for your hollowing needs up to about 4″ deep. Each tool comes ready to go with a sharp M2 High Speed Steel tip. When worn out, tips are easy to replace, replacement tips can be found here.

Why choose our HSS Hollowing Tools?

  • Designed to be used by hand or with the Stabilizer.
  • M2 HSS Tips are secured with super glue (no small set screws to loose, clog up or strip out) and easily replaced.
  • Narrow profile for superior access and control – allows you to hollow longer before needing to clear out the shavings.
  • No need to remove the tip for sharpening. Watch a short video on sharpening here.
  • Not all bent tools are created equally. Our Bent and Extreme Bent tools are designed so that the cutter is located on center with the shaft of the tool. This eliminates the rotary torque often associated with the hollowing process as long as you keep the tool rest behind the bent part of the tool .
  • Designed by a woodturner for woodturners and made in our Fort Collins, Colorado shop.

Why choose HSS? Trent prefers the HSS tools, because they work well in a wide variety of materials. The HSS tip creates a small shaving that is easy to remove (even when you have form with a small opening) because it is a scraping tool.

Diameter: 3/8″ / Overall Length of Tool: 11″ / Approximate Hollowing Depth: 4″

Don’t forget a handle. We recommend a 16″ Handle, like our Blue Super Tool Handle with a Blue Insert (included in a “Super Set”).

A must have if you are going to do hollowing very easy to use

Love these tools! I know a lot of folks like the carbide hollowing tools, but I’m not one of them. It’s most likely because I’m old and started using the the high speed steel tips from Trent and David E. back in the late 90s – early 2000s. I’m currently doing some surface enhancements on weed pots and have moved over to Ornament/globe and need to hollow out the center. I use the small Stabilize with the Stabilizer Adapter for Niclot Mini Hollowers. Takes about 5 min to set up on any of my lathes, recently on a PM 2014. I was using Grapefruit, 3 1/4″ globe. Very happy with the speed and finish. Made a 3D printed holder for the tools so sharpening is very easy. Thanks guys for another great tool. (I haven’t needed to sharpen them yet)
