Our 5/8″ High Speed Steel Hollowing Tools are great for your hollowing needs up to about 8″ deep. Each tool comes ready to go with a sharp High Speed Steel tip. When worn out, tips are easy to replace, replacement tips can be found here.
A little bit about our Hollowing Tools: Our hollowing tools were designed by a woodturner for woodturners, not by a manufacturer who has never used a lathe before. The narrow profile of the tool near the tip provides superior clearance and control. This also allows you to hollow longer before needing to clear out the shavings, speeding up the process. Our hollowing tools do not have swivel tips to get in the way, no set screws to strip out, and tips are easily replaced. Not all bent tools are created equally. Our bent hollowing tools are designed so that the cutter is located on center with the shaft of the tool. This eliminates the rotary torque often associated with the hollowing process as long as you keep the tool rest behind the bent part of the tool. Trent uses these tools to teach the hollowing process to hundreds of students each year. Each tool is made by us in Fort Collins, Colorado USA.
Overall Length of Tool: 15″ / Approximate Hollowing Depth: 8″

Brandon Sloan –
I was really impressed with my new tools. I took the time to watch the instructional videos and felt confident using these tools for the first time. The straight hollowing tool cuts through end grain with ease and the bent tool left a very nice finish on the curved surface of my hollow form. I have used carbide hollowing tools and prefer these because I can make light cuts or aggressive cuts with ease. Plus these tools can be re-sharpened to be more or less aggressive. Would definitely buy again.

Awesome hollowing tool! Game changer for me.

I am learning how to use this tool and turning hollow vessels. I like how easy this tool cuts and easy to control.

Good tools, haven’t sharpened them yet.
Bob Clague –
Solid tool, sped up my hollowing, and the lack of chatter/flexing compared to my old tools makes for a better outcome with less effort. The difference in the bend angles between this tool and the regular bent tool seems just right to me, functionally. Very happy!
Daniel K. –
Works well for hollowing just what they were designed for.
Bryan T. –
The BEST hollowing tools I have ever purchased. Solid, well built. Incredible tools.
Doug Wininger –
I have begun using the tools and found it very easy to learn and use them efficiently. I am well pleased with the hollowing tools!!
Lionel J. –
Well-thought-out tools which allow you to achieve maximum access within a hollow form. I really like the smallness of the HSS tip and the tapering of the bar. The HSS stays sharp and so far has need no more than honing with a CBN credit-card to stay sharp
Buddy Compton –
Excellent tools and I am now enjoying a new adventure in hollowing. Recommend these tools to anyone.
William Folger –
I like this size tool for medium size pieces up to about 10″ deep. Well made, received in a few days after I placed the order.
William Folger –
Trent is one of the only people making a 5/8″ hollowing tool. It is a good size for hollowing medium size pieces not as heavy as larger tools and easier to use. Well made.
Michael Okner –
Very well made and a fair value
Johnny Tolly –

Wanted to start making hollow forms, these tools were listed in the FAQ as a good place to get started. High quality, very pleased with the tools. Trent was vey responsive when I reached out with a question. Overall, A+++

These work very well. Personally I wish the cutters removed for sharpening. Sharpening the cutters while in the bar is much easier on a wheel with a radius than a square corner
Gordon Coker –
Excellent tool!

I love the tool. On some of my hollow forms I was having difficulty accessing the inside top. Now it is no longer a problem.

I bought the 5/8” curved carbide tip hollowing tool at the Rocky Mountain Woodturner symposium a month ago and decided to go ahead and get the other two 5/8” hollowing tools to complete the set. They work great for that intermediate size vase or urn that is 5”-7” deep. After 25 years, I now own all of Trent‘s hollowing tool sets up to 1”. I don’t and wouldn’t use any other brand. No reason to, Trent‘s tools are well designed and work perfectly.

I’m glad I got both sets

Fantastic tool, kicking myself for not buying it years ago!

Top of the line. No bending on catch, smooth as butter, and easy to maintain. They earn their keep in my shop.

I would like a video on when and how to sharpen the scraper. I tried putting it lightly on my grinder and it removed a lot of metal. It would be helpful to have a scraper with a flatter edge for finishing.
Mark Harris (verified owner) –
Nice

Good combination of shapes for access and tips cut really well. Can hog out quickly or make finish cuts with finesse. Very well made.
